Nicholas Boys Smith, a former Conservative adviser who was appointed by Michael Gove to head up the Office for Place in July, which advises on planning for new housing, said protected rural land will have “some building on it” in the future. The green belt should be partially sacrificed to accommodate Britain’s demand for new homes, the Government’s planning tsar has said.
